STUDENTS B have retained their stranglehold on Loughborough and District Table Tennis League’s Division One title despite being given a run for their money by Charnwood Corn.

The visitors went eight points clear of club mates Students A, with a game in hand, after a 4-2 victory against opponents who have moved off the bottom of the table.

Ridhi Rohat, one of the mainstays of their impressive season, led the way with two wins and a man of the match performance.

But there was consolation in defeat for Guan Mei Zhang and Shan Gao who have battled gamely in the top flight

Gao defeated Xi-Long Huang 11-7 11-3 11-7 and combined with Zhang to take the final set of the evening 11-3 11-7 3-11 11-7

Xi-Long-Huang beat Zhang in four games as Students chalked up a 10th victory in 11 starts.

Students A are well clear in second spot but their hopes of catching the leaders suffered a blow when they were held 3-3 at home by Swannington.

Sandar Koch and William Mitchell both won one singles for the hosts but had to give second best to Adam Pettitt who was in fine form for Swannington.

Pettitt and John Szostak also shared the doubles as Swannington made life difficult for Students.

This was the ‘A’ side’s second draw since the resumption after

Christmas as they were also held by Draycott Dinosaurs 3-3.

Ashwin Subramanian Venkat Raman maintained his record of only having lost one singles all season with a man of the match display but Richard Hayes and Gnana Sai Ram Goli both won one for the hosts.

Goli and Viv Rayson ensured a share of the spoils by taking the final set for Draycott.
