Dolphins secure welcome funding booster
SHEPSHED Dolphin Swimming Group is celebrating after securing funding from Charnwood Borough Council and reaping the benefits from a Swimathon staged by one of the club members.
Members consist of individuals with a disability or long-term health condition as well as those recovering from injury or illness and of course their friends, carers and family are welcome too.
Run at the pool at Iveshead School in Shepshed, on Saturdays from 10.30am-12.15pm, it offers a morning broken down into sessions for lane swimming, free time in the pool and Aqua fit sessions.
Club administrator Nicola Crow said: “We are enjoying being back in the pool in 2022. We are really pleased to be able to continue running our group which provides so much fun and exercise for our members. This year we have been awarded funding from Charnwood Borough Council towards the cost of keeping the group open and we are so pleased to say that due to one of our younger members doing a sponsored Swimathon in December we will be able to continue offering free carer swims for 2022
“Our star swimmer is one of our younger members who has a visual impairment. She once found swimming very challenging but has taken it upon herself to raise money for the club as she enjoys coming so much. We were so proud of the 10 lengths she completed and she was awarded with a certificate and some chocolates for all her hard work and effort raising nearly £250 for the group.
“Sessions are £2.50 for adults and £1 for under 18’s. There are no membership fees to pay, just the swim fee for each session. The sessions are run by volunteers and qualified life guards. We are a charity and are funded by different sources and grants.
“As with all charities our continued success relies on our members swimming with us but also on donations and grants so we can pay for lifeguards, specialist teachers or equipment and overall running costs.”
