Support is on hand thanks to new app

-

PEOPLE living with cancer in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are benefiting from support at their fingertips, thanks to a new app.

Launched earlier this month, the LLR Cancer Information app has been developed by NHS cancer specialists to support patients, families, friends and carers.

The app includes information about treatments and side-effects, together with health and wellbeing support.

It also has information on how to access community support, as well as advice on topics such as money and finance.

Jane Pickard, Macmillan lead cancer nurse at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, said: “We know that a cancer diagnosis impacts all aspects of a person’s life, as well as their family’s.

“People often need more than just

clinical support before, during and after cancer treatment and also in other aspects of their life, which is why we’ve developed this app.

“Whether it’s financial, diet and exercise, hair loss or psychological support, the app offers advice and signposting to help support the person in a holistic way.”

The app was developed in partnership with patients, clinicians, people from the voluntary sector and NHS organisations.

Dr Paul Danaher, GP and clinical lead for cancer for the LLR Clinical Commissioning Groups, said: “There is so much support available for people living with and beyond cancer, but it can be hard to know where to start looking.

The LLR Cancer Information app is free to download and available for mobile and tablet devices on the Apple and Android app stores.
