New ‘A’ team hardly inspires confidence

-

THANK goodness Boris has refreshed his ‘A’ team.

That rising star Jacob Rees-Mogg has been given a cabinet post in charge of Brexit Opportunities.

Mind you, he’ll have to go some to outdo Liz Truss, the previous holder of that position.

She made a fantastic free trade deal with the Faroe Islands and then went on a trip costing the taxpayer more than £500,000.

No, it wasn’t to the Moon, but to Australia, where she used her powerful negotiating skills to come away with an amazing agreement to allow their cheap home-reared lamb into our market, which will undercut most of our hill farmers’ prices and threaten them with bankruptcy.

Now I’m not saying that Jacob is behind the times, but the world appetite for steam-driven beam engines and Penny Farthing bicycles is very limited.

He will, however, win them over with his charm, perfect manners and idiosyncratic ways.

Another good appointment is Mark Spencer to Leader of the House.

He was Chief Whip and carried out his duties with exceptional enthusiasm and vigour.

However, he went a bit “over the top” and is now being investigated for Islamophobia and forceful persuasion.

This bulldog character is just the type of person needed to keep the House in order.

I am disappointed that we didn’t get a new Health Secretary. Sajid Javid made a statement to the House

this week where he seemed to make a virtue out of the fact that there is a huge waiting list for NHS treatment and it’s only going to get worse over the next two years before it might get better.

It is accepted that there are 6,000,000 patients on the list. If each person outstretched their arms horizontally it would be approximately one metre in length. If they then stood fingertip to fingertip, side by side, they would stretch 6,000,000 metres which is 6,000 kilometres, equivalent to a queue of people from Lands End to John O’Groats and then back again, twice.

Unbelievable! Major surgery is needed, not sticking plasters.
