SHOW TO RETURN. Sutton Bonington residents are looking forward and are enthusiastic about the return of their village show after a two year break forced on the organisers because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Work is underway to make the 2022 return of the show special, and officials have a firm determination that the event this year will be worthy of the record they have of bringing a day of top class entertainment for the hundreds of people who visit the event.

After being off the calendar for two years, it is expected the return will see not only the ‘regulars’ being back but newcomers to the long list of supporters as well.as the much-loved event. return

The first Sunday in September in Sutton Bonington is usually a very hectic day, with many hundreds of people visiting the village to attend an event that has become a massive crowd puller, a nd offcials are confident that situation will return this year, on the fourth.

In 2020 a couple of months before it was due to take pace organisers had to put out a statement that said it was with great sadness that they had to announce the Sutton Bonington Show had to be cancelled as a result of the Pandemic.

Chairman Mrs Chris Littledyke said then the decision had not been taken lightly, but had been made for the safety of all their exhibitors, entertainers and visitors, as well as all the committee and volunteers who help to make the Show a success.

The end of the statement underlined: “We will now focus all our efforts towards the 2021 Show” and that assurance came as good news for the village as many people remembered that in neighbouring Kegworth its annual carnival, another major crowd pulling event, folded after having a year off from being held. But of course no-one knew then that the one-year break would have to turn into a second year , when it became obvious the pandemic was not going away with the result that the 2021 event had to becalled off as well.

The show, always held on the first Sunday in September each year, attracts several thousand people, with many of them visitors to the village, including former residents who have moved away after a marriage and who come back on show weekend to be with their parents.

The show has always offered different main ring attractions as well as the scores of other activities happening, including the many trade stalls and food outlets.

For the 2019 show one of the big attractions was an appearance of Great British Bake Off star Frances Quinn, who had won the national competition in 2013. For some years the show has made a feature of a cookery and a bake off activity and judging by the number of people who visit the special marquee during show day it is a popular choice.

Another highlight of the 2020 show was a Spitfire Flypast along with the Extreme Motorcycle display team.

The 2022 event will be the 35th in the expanded form, as it continues to be well recognised as a leader in this area in its field.

The overall annual event really puts Sutton Bonington on the map and each year profits are donated to local groups and charities together with a main charity which in recent years has been the Nottingham Breast Institute. Local organisations also benefit as do other charities.

CRICKET CLUB. Sutton Bonington Cricket Club enjoyed a successful 2021 season which saw them secure promotion with eight victories from 13 games for this new season into Division H of the South Nottinghamshire Cricket League
