EASTER SERVICES AT ST. JAMES’ THE GREATER CHURCH, OAKS ROAD, LE12 9YD PALM SUNDAY.

The event on Thursday April 28 will run from 9-30 am to 11.00 am and will include a guided tour of the

facilities led by Year Six children , the opportunit­y to meet the staff, a talk from headmaster Mr Lee Shilton and various displays to study which will have been produced by staff and pupils.

Other highlights that will help fill the programme for the event will include the Forest School activity undertaken by pupils, details of the Wraparound care and holiday clubs, details of the many extra curricular opportunit­ies, the Year Six buddies group, the fact the school had a good OFSTED report in May 2019, opportunit­ies for music tuition, residentia­l trips and visits, joining a vibrant school community and a creative curriculum.

Sunday April 10 at 8.30 am, Holy Communion service with Rev Lydia Humphreys. The story of Jesus entering Jerusalem on a Donkey will be retold at this service.

GOOD FRIDAY - KEEPING OF THE HOUR. Friday April 15 at 2.00 pm. Keeping watch with meditation­s and silence as Jesus dies on the cross.

FAMILY SERVICE - Sunday April 17 at 11.00 am is the Family Service with Churchward­en Steve Upton using our new updated Family Service booklets by Reader Michael Torne. Sandra and her team will be available to care for the younger ones in the hall next door, before they rejoin the congregati­on in church for the remainder of the service. Afterwards there will be an Easter Egg Hunt around the churchyard for those who are able to join us.

ST. JAMES’ THE GREATER, OAKS IN CHARNWOOD FACEBOOK - TRIBUTE TO UKRAINE. Our St. James’ the Greater Facebook has been updated with delightful photos from the fund raising Daffodil Tea and also our tribute to Ukraine in St. James’ the Greater. The church was open from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm for private prayer. Further church openings are planned at a later stage as around twenty five people called in to collect their Prayer for Ukraine written by Archbishop­s Justin Welby and Stephen Cottrell or just to look round the church at the artefacts and the World Wars Memorial boards and folder.

FISH ‘n’ CHIP & PRIZE BINGO NIGHT. We are holding our usual Prize Bingo with Fish ‘n’ Chip Supper on Saturday April 23 commencing at 5.00 pm for 5.30 pm (new time). The venue is the Oaks Storer Hall, LE12 9YD. Your meal will include mini fish, chips & peas plus bread & butter, tea or coffee. We are not licensed to sell alcohol, but you are welcome to bring your own. Please bring your own drinking glasses. Tickets are £7 each from Mary on 07545 817664. Bingo tickets including our infamous Whisky flyer will be available to purchase on the night. There will also be a Raffle and tickets are £1 each. Raffle prizes are much appreciate­d for this event. Funds raised from this event go towards the upkeep of James’ the Greater Church, maintenanc­e of the churchyard and the Oaks Storer Hall. meeting of electorate­s within Charley Parish. You must be on the electoral register to attend this meeting. This is your chance to talk about anything within the Parish. We would like as many people to come to the meeting as possible.

ANNUAL PARISH COUNCIL MEETING. The Annual Parish Council meeting of Charley Parish Council will be held on Wednesday May 4 at 7.30 pm in the Oaks Storer Hall, LE12 9YD. This meeting will start as soon as the Charley Parish meeting closes - approximat­ely 7.15 pm. The first business on the Agenda will be to elect a new Chairman for the next 12 months. This is a meeting where the Council reviews and renews all policies and procedures. We look back at the last 12 months and the Chairman provides a report of the last 12 months.
