Shepshed Dynamo see their unbeaten run end

SHEPSHED’S run of five consecutiv­e games came to an end with a 2-0 defeat away to Sutton Coldfield Town in the Pitching in Northern Premier League Midlands Division on Saturday.

After a goal less first half it looked like Shepshed were taking control of the game but Jack Burgess opened the scoring for The Royals on 63 minutes and Reece Gibson sealed the points on 82 minutes.

After an impeccable minutes silence for Redditch United player Tom Rankin who sadly suddenly passed away last weekend, Sutton Coldfield could have been two up in the first five minutes. Curvin Ellis through on goal on two and three minutes respective­ly firing over the crossbar on both occasions.

Shepshed gained a corner on 14 minutes but Jack McMillan’s corner was headed wide.

Sutton Coldfield were certainly used to playing on the home surface and continued to control the earlier stages of the first half. Aris Christopho­rou firing straight at Brandon Ganley on 16 minutes and likewise James Beresford on 20 minutes.

Shepshed’s first real chance came on 23 minutes with Niall Prendervil­le firing into Jonathan Brown and five minutes later Dempsey Arlott - John’s effort was deflected wide for a corner.

Dynamo were forced to defend again as Angel Njong fired into Ganley on the half hour mark.

Shepshed had their best spell of the half after this with McMillan straight into Brown on 32 minutes and

Shepshed’s best effort of the half as Brown tipped over McMillan’s shot a minute later. The half petered and remained goal less at the break.

Dynamo had the opening chance of the first half with Arlott -John’s shot over the crossbar and two minutes later Ganley was called into a succession of saves to deny Sutton Coldfield the lead.

Shepshed had their best spell of the game with John King’s effort blocked and the rebound cleared off the line for a corner on 51 minutes. Then McMillan hit the crossbar on 53 minutes and Jack Rogers fired wide. Three minutes later and Brown saved from Arlott - John.

The game then swung back to Sutton Coldfield Ellis forcing a save from Ganley on 58 minutes.

Five minutes later and The Royals were in the lead the ball was stole off

Reece Morris on Sutton’s and Burgess beat Ganley.

Prendervil­le tried to respond for Dynamo but his header was over on 67 minutes.

As the game went into the last ten minutes Sutton Coldfield pressed for a second Ganley saving on 81 minutes from Thomas Armitage. Two minutes later and they were two in front after a neat move down the left hand side Gibson curled his effort past Ganley.

Shepshed tried to get back in the game with substitute Matt Melbourne shooting over and straight into Brown in injury time.

Despite their first defeat in five Shepshed remain 13th and the win for Sutton Coldfield almost certainly assures them of Step four football next season. Shepshed are away again next Saturday when they travel to Corby Town. right wing
