Barrow upon Soar

-

BARROW RAILWAY STATION ADOPTION GROUP. Sunday was our first event on the platform as a group and it was a glorious spring morning – lots of sunshine and really warm.

Twelve volunteers set about on what can only be described as a weed infested site! First job of the day was to weed the area that the new planters were being put in, and make a hole big enough that they would site safely.

With the whole team weeding and digging it wasn’t long before you could see real progress being made – and the area was starting to look a bit more tamed. Before you knew it, an hour had passed, the planters were in place and ready to be planted up. Just some spring bulbs going in today, ready for next year. In a few weeks time, we will add some colour and scented perenials to add more colours to the platform.

We will be back as a group on the first Sunday of every month. It will take at least one more task to tidy the whole of platform up and clear the weeds. This will be followed by regular maintenance tasks until we get the funding agreed to start the enhancements that we have requested with East Midland Railways.

Volunteers: Philip, Andrew, Karen, Bill, Linda, Annette, Nick, Liz, Bob, Steve, Ian, Stewart, Alexa (our EMR Community Ambassador ) and her wonderful dog, Cedric.

Thanks to all our volunteers today – a really impressive start to our long term project to improve Barrow Railway Station.
