BRADGATE PARK VILLAGE MAKES NATIONAL POSH LIST

A VILLAGE in the shadow of Old John has been handed national recognition as one of the poshest in the UK.

And with its mixture of Swithland slate and thatched roofs, a deer park on the doorstep and even an original police box in situ, it’s no wonder Newtown Linford stands out.

It has been named (again) Leicestershire’s poshest village for 2023 by the Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper announces its list of the most desirable villages each year, taking into consideration a variety of things including a “posh appeal” before making their decision.

The village is usually named as the winner of the honour every year, and is placed alongside notable posh villages across England, Scotland and Wales.

Other East Midlands winners include Church with Chapel Brampton in Northamptonshire, Colston Bassett in Nottinghamshire and Edensor in Derbyshire.

According to the Telegraph’s list, Newtown Linford made the cut with an average house price of £692,157, as well as its “posh appeal”, including a private members’ club, an active community and being the home to a rare police box.

The listing also including a photograph of the Everards pub, The Bradgate, which is in the heart of the village.

The village is a magnet for visitors, especially due to its close proximity to Bradgate Park, with Newtown Linford having one of the main car parks for the park along with the Bradgate Coffee Company and the Watkinghams gift shop.

The village also has a couple of tea rooms, a deli kitchen, two pubs – The Linford and the Bradgate – and a nearby farm shop, which adds to the village’s appeal.

The listing on the Telegraph’s article says: “This village comes with a private members’ club, the Linford, which was originally attached to the British Legion.

“In the Second World War, the skittle alley in the back room became a temporary factory to assemble aircraft parts.

“Today it hosts rock ’n’ roll Mondays, Brownie meetings and bodyblast classes.

“The village also has one of the only surviving police boxes in Britain.”
