Town to host specialist Covid jab clinic

-

LEICESTERSHIRE Partnership NHS Trust is putting on more specialist Covid-19 vaccination clinics ahead of the end of the Covid-19 booster campaign.

The clinics are open to all children, young people and adults, but in particular those with a learning disability and their close family, carers and friends. The clinics will be running from the following venues:

Wednesday, February 8, Loughborough Hospital Vaccination Centre, Hospital Way, LE11 5JY from 10.30am – 5.30pm;

Friday, February 10, The Agnes Unit, Anstey Lane, LE7 7GL, from 10am – 4pm.

The clinics are part of a series of award-winning community Covid-19 vaccination sessions offering first, second and booster doses (while they’re still available as part of the autumn booster campaign). They provide longer appointment times, where needed, and vaccinators specialising in learning disability support and care – to help to provide the best environment to enable people to have the vaccine. Each appointment can also be tailored to suit the individual’s needs.

Surekha Joshi, operational lead for the Trust’s Covid-19 vaccination programme, said: “Though many of us are now used to living with Covid-19, over the winter we saw rates of the virus rise in England. It is still very important to continue to do what we can to protect ourselves and our loved ones from the virus, especially for those who are more likely to become very poorly if they catch Covid-19, including people with a learning disability.

“Getting the protection from the vaccine is the best way to stay healthy. The vaccine is safe and offers good protection against Covid-19. It also means that if you do catch Covid-19 after you’ve had the vaccine, you reduce your risk of getting very ill and passing it on to others.

“It’s also important that people who want their booster, in particular, come forward as soon as possible, to ensure they can get their protection before the autumn/ winter booster campaign finishes.”

People can book in advance using the details below, though some walk-in appointments will be available too.

To book an appointment at the clinics, email lpt.covidcampaign@ nhs.net with the person’s name, age and any requirements or adaptations needed. The vaccine used will be Pfizer/BioNTech but please note that children will be given a smaller dose than young people and adults.
