Flats ‘don’t need parking’
NINE HOMES ARE PROPOSED ON LAND BEHIND HOUSE
TWO blocks of flats with no parking spaces for residents could be built on land at the back of a house.
DJT Properties Ltd wants to build the blocks at the rear of 45 Park Road, in Loughborough’s Victoria Street Conservation Area.
The applicant told Charnwood Borough Council nine, two-bedroom flats would be split across the blocks.
A three-storey block would house seven flats and a two-storey block two more.
Documents submitted on behalf of the developer by Will Aust Architecture said there would be no need for residents of the proposed flats to use a car, because the site is “in a very sustainable location”.
However, a resident of Beacon Road has lodged an objection, saying: “I think it is unreasonable to expect that (none of the potential residents) will have a car.
“Where do they expect people to park? Parking outside our house, or should I say our road, is already very busy, and we often have to park on Garton Road or Mayfield Drive. Where would visitors be expected to park?
“All extra cars will put a massive pressure on already limited spaces on Burton Street/Garton Road/Mayfield Drive and Beacon Road.”
A resident of Lanesborough Court, next to the site, has objected to the scheme on the grounds of “overintensification of development”, that the blocks “will have an overbearing nature” and “will take out natural daylight”.
The application documents said: “The site is within walking distance of the town centre and regular bus services to the train station.
“A secure cycle store will be provided, to encourage more sustainable modes of transport.”
