RETURN OF RUN. Keep fit enthusiast­s in East Leake have welcomed the fact that runners can now sign up for Rushcliffe 10k and fun run which is making a welcomed return on Sunday, March 26 after a break of four years due to Covid 19.

Rushcliffe Athletics Club is hosting the popular event at Rushcliffe Country Park at Ruddington and will include both a family-friendly 2k fun run starting at 10am and the 10k run at 11am.

The 10k run is suitable for all abilities, from novices to experience­d runners, aged 15 and over and will be chip timed.

The course involves two circuits of the country park and is off-road and is traffic free.

The event will include a run under UKA rules, an accurately measured course, full first aid facilities, full marshallin­g on course, Kilometre markers, and a drinks station at 5km.

The 10k entry fees are: UKA Affiliated - £13, Non UKA Affiliated - £15. Fun run entry fees: £4 per person, a family ticket for up to four people is £5.

Treasurer of Rushcliffe Athletics Club David Sweet said: “We are delighted to bring the Rushcliffe 10km back to the Rushcliffe sporting calendar.

“It was always a really popular event in the past and regularly sold out, so we’re looking forward to welcoming runners of all ages and abilities back to Rushcliffe Country Park in March.

“Please do sign up early as we anticipate places will sell out quickly.”

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s cabinet portfolio holder for communitie­s and climate change, Coun Abby Brennan, added: “We’re pleased that Rushcliffe Athletics Club are delivering this fantastic event which is making a triumphant return after Covid-19.

“This 10k running event has been a favourite race amongst Rushcliffe residents in the past and we anticipate this year’s event will be a popular event for all.

BUDGET SET. East Leake parish council has set its budget for 2023-2024 at an overall expenditur­e figure of £313,450 which equates to a Band D precept figure of £94 61 – which is down by 3.1 per cent on the current year.

In the current 2022/2023 financial year the Band D figure was £97 65p and the total expenditur­e budget for the 12-month period was £318,550.

HISTORY SOCIETY. Members of East Leake and District Local History Society were given a talk on a brief history of pantomimes at their meeting in January, when Ann Feathersto­ne was the speaker. She explored the history of pantomimes going back to the 17th and 18th centuries, the glory days of the 19th century, right up to modern times.

CHURCH THANKS. A message of thanks goes to those who helped the parish church of St Mary’s at East Leake and the parishes across the benefice in respect of the Christmas services, and behind the scenes with decorating and cleaning.

Says the Rector, the Rev Tim Parker: “So much work goes into our Christmas celebratio­n and mission, and we really appreciate everyone’s contributi­on.”

AIRPORT CONSULTATI­ON. The parish council at East Leake has asked to be actively involved in a consultati­on process under way involving new departure and arrival routes for the East Midlands Airport.

Coun Carys Thomas, in a report to members, said she had attended a consultati­on on the proposals as a member of Rushcliffe Borough Council. She asked for the parish councillor to support their council being added to the distributi­on list involving the consultati­on and clerk Sue Lewis is writing to that effect.

MEADOW PARK AID. Financial aid is being given by the parish council at East Leake to the Friends of East Leake Meadow Park to help fund their requiremen­t to replace some stolen equipment.

The council was asked to consider an applicatio­n for support and agreed to pay half of the amount needed to replace the stolen items, £273.75, on the proviso that the equipment is stored securely to comply with insurance requiremen­ts.

Coun Onna Griggs proposed the payment be made and Coun Mel Roper seconded the move.

SCOUTS. East Leake Scouts May Day Celebratio­ns have been moved from Monday, May 1 to the special King Charles III Coronation public holiday on Monday, May 8.
