SUTTON BONINGTON SHOW. Following the annual meeting of Sutton Bonington Show on Tuesday this week, supporters of the annual event are continuing to work on plans for the 2023 show that will be taking place on Sunday, September 3.

The show at Sutton Bonington is the major one of its kind in the South Notts area and each years profits are donated to local groups and charities together with a main charity which in recent years has been the Nottingham Breast Institute.

The main events this year will include then ‘On the Edge’ motorbike display team and Van Buren’s Victorian Theatre of Wonders.

Country Chef Rachel Green returns with her cooking demonstrations and as in previous years there will be many high-quality exhibits, the popular country foods and trade stands along with crafts, together with classic cars and birds of prey.

The show in its present form dates to 1987 and is recognised as being the major event of its type in the area.

Chairman Chris Littledyke says they will welcome anyone interested in helping with the annual event.

Hundreds of people turn out for the show, not only from the village itself but from many of the other local villages. The organisers are always grateful for offers of help towards what is one of the major events for the village each year.

The activities on September 3 also include the flower, vegetable and produce show organised by Sutton Bonington Horticultural Society and which is open to all residents of Sutton Bonington, Kingston-on-Soar, Normanton-on-Soar, Ratcliffe-on-Soar, West Leake and Zouch and all members of the above society and children wherever they live.

Exhibits in the show that are not for auction can be collected after 4pm on Sunday and there will be an auction of unclaimed produce 4.30pm.

Trophies will be awarded as follows: The Society Cup, The WI Trophy, The Society Salver, The Kings Head Salver, The Poachers Arms, The Ted Buxton Trophy, The Herrington Trophy, Rock Cake Trophy, The Helga Taylor Trophy, The Anchor Trophy, The Children’s Trophy, The Gordon Firth Trophy, Trophies for the Best Vegetable, Fruit and Flower exhibits in the Show.

The popular annual Galloping Gourmet event is again on the entertainment programme for Sutton Bonington and will be taking place on Saturday, May 13. The event is a well recognised village tradition and has been held on the events calendar for 30 over years.
