Big win as school’s leaders at ‘inspiring’ residential

-

A headteacher and deputy head of a Loughborough school attended an “inspiring” PTI School Leadership Residential workshops, thanks to funds raised by the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Education charity the PTI supports teacher training work, thanks to funds raised by players of the lottery and awarded by Postcode Support Trust.

This support has enabled head teacher Jon Bishop and deputy head Mark Hibbert, of Robert Bakewell Primary School, to attend the annual event at Fanham’s Hall in Hertfordshire earlier this month.

The Residential is a unique opportunity for school leaders to openly discuss challenges and opportunities in teaching within a collaborative peer network.

Participants consider how they can enhance and improve their school’s standards and develop the quality of their teachers. They develop long-term strategies to raise standards in their school and meet a diverse community of school leaders from around the country to share leadership strategies that focus on improving teaching and learning, recruiting and developing passionate teachers, and conducting action-based research.

Jon called it an “inspiring two days that have allowed time and space to think through the curriculum afresh.

“It has been valuable in becoming more learner focussed and collegiate.”

Deputy Head Mark said: “It was the most incredible two days.

“The quality of the speakers, the quality of the venue and the friendliness of the colleagues was brilliant! A really well organised event which has been so thought provoking!”

The Subject Leadership Programme encourages schools to engage in curriculum improvements and projects that will result in better subject provision, as well as motivating teachers to deepen their subject knowledge.

The programme also connects secondary school teachers to a network of other teachers across England and Wales.
