Wholesaler and customers help give hospice £2,200 boost

-

RAINBOWS hospice has been given a Christmas gift thanks to the generosity of Ocean King’s loyal customers.

It is the second year that Ocean King has launched the “Ocean King Christmas Calendar Donations”, inviting their associates to vote for their favourite charity and then asking its customers to make donations in receipt of their 2023 calendars.

The company would then match fund the amount for a good cause. Many of their associates live in Loughborough and know the good work Rainbows does.

The total amount raised was £2,196 which is up from £1,354 last year, which was incredible, said a spokesman, given the cost of living crisis.

Established in 1994, Rainbows provides palliative, end of life care and specialist respite to babies, children and young people with serious and terminal conditions, as well as support to their families.

Every year, Rainbows cares for more than 300 children and young people up to the age of 25 from across Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland.

A spokesman for the business that supplies food and goods to restaurants, said: “Just imagine being one of the families who need Rainbows’ support, having to cope with the complexities and anxiety that hits when they learn that their child has a life-limiting condition.

“The hospice is a place that can provide comfort and care to these families, making them feel like they are at home. Entering the hospice, you can just feel the warmth - everywhere is colourful and beautifully decorated with children’s paintings and artwork. The hospice is also equipped with a full range of facilities including a hydrotherapy pool, fully equipped gym, multisensory room, soft play and a newly installed cinema room.

“These are very valuable to some families who may find it difficult to visit before they come to Rainbows.

“Rainbows only receives limited funding from the Government and mainly relies on private donations.

“We sincerely hope we can join hands with our customers to give back to the community and achieve a greater amount of donations to benefit more people in need in the coming year.”
