MEADOW PARK. The many people who help with the work of the Friends of East Leake’s Meadow Park were thanked at the group’s annual general meeting by Acting Chairman Kevin Gibbons.

Kevin thanked members who were stepping down from the committee for their work, emphasisin­g how important this had been and how grateful they were for the work they had undertaken.

The Acting Chairman said the Management Plan needs updating with specific attention given to the grass cutting plan.

“Our focus for 2023 continues to be increasing biodiversi­ty so careful planting and mowing is essential,” he added.

The meeting was told that the membership continues to increase. In 2019 there had been 190 members and in 2022 there were 221.

Mr Gibbons, in his report as secretary, said it is gratifying that so many villagers tell us how much they appreciate the 44 acres that make up Meadow Park.

“We aim to increase our membership and maintain a high profile in the village,” said Keith.

Andy Denker the treasurer, said they had ended the year with a balance of over £2,000.

“There were several generous donations ranging from £100 to £600.

This has been used to buy an alder to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and more willow trees with support from Arch Communicat­ions.

The treasurer said that the Happy Crocodile donated £600 and £205 was donated to the Arboretum Fund. Some of this money has yet to be spent but will buy new trees, equipment, bulbs and seeds.

Andy advised members that unfortunat­ely their bank charges had been increased so they were we are in the process of moving to the Co-Op bank.

Financial aid is being given by the parish council at East Leake to the Friends of East Leake Meadow Park to help fund their requiremen­t to replace some stolen equipment.

The council were asked to consider an applicatio­n for support and agreed to pay half of the amount needed to replace the stolen items, £273.75, on the proviso that the equipment is stored securely to comply with insurance requiremen­ts.

Coun. Donna Griggs proposed the payment be made and Coun. Mel Roper seconded the move.

AIRPORT CONSULTATI­ON. The parish council at East Leake have asked to be actively involved in a consultati­on process underway involving new departure and arrival routes for the East Midlands Airport.

Coun. Carys Thomas in a report to members said she had attended an line consultati­on on the proposals as a member of Rushcliffe Borough Council. She asked for the parish councillor to support their council being added to the distributi­on list involving the consultati­on and clerk Sue Lewis is writing to that effect.

MAY DAY. East Leake Scouts May Day Celebratio­ns have been moved from Monday May 1 to the special Kings Coronation public holiday on Monday May 8.

HISTORY SOCIETY. The Archaeolog­y pf the East Leake / Rempstone Quarry was the subject of a talk given to East Leake and District Local History Society when M er Richard Parker of the Trent and Peak Archaeolog­y team was the visiting speaker.

He was to tell visitors to the meeting in St Mary’s Church what had been discovered during their investigat­ion of the site before contractor­s began the major excavation work on the site.
