BELPER 2ND XI 2 COALVILLE & LOUGHBOROUGH

CARILLON 1ST XI 4

CLC Men’s 1st team begun a crunch weekend with visit to 11th placed Belper on Saturday before taking on 10th placed Sikh Union on Sunday.

Buoyed by a good result last time out against Ashby, the team were targeting maximum points to put any lingering relegation worries behind them.

A late start in Belper under lights seemed to catch CLC off guard and they began slowly without imposing themselves on the fixture. It was Belper who took the lead with a goal Tom McCord would not want to see back. Trailing 1-0 at half time, CLC kept their composure and focused on the next half.

What followed was a masterclass in putting teams away, with CLC scoring four times in a devastating 15-minute spell. Liam Allen, recalled to the 1st XI after scoring five goals in two matches for the 2nds, carried on his hot streak with another two goals and wrapped up man of the match. Tommy Wright and Danny Harwood grabbed the other two goals from short corners to put the game beyond Belper. The home side did score a consolation right at the end of the fixture but the day belonged to CLC.

SIKH UNION 1ST XI 2

ON TO Sunday and another team below CLC, in the tricky Sikh Union. The line up in this fixture gave lots of opportunity for players who have been performing well in the 2nds to step up and make their first team debuts; Harry White, Fin Martin, Alex Middleton and goalkeeper Euan Christie.

This game also started with CLC going a goal down in the first minute as a defensive lapse let in the Sikh Union striker to convert. CLC regrouped and like in Saturday’s fixture came right back into the contest. Liam Allen again the provider as he outsprinted the defence to finish under the keeper.

Another solo effort this time from the excellent and rightly voted man of the match, Ruaidhri Maguire put CLC ahead. The next goal in the game was going to be crucial and it fell CLC’s way with Fin Martin capping a fine debut by finishing well in the circle. While Sikh Union did get a second goal, CLC were composed and saw out the game for their second win in two days.

With 9 points taken from the last three games, the table looks much healthier going into this weekends fixture with Sikh Union (Coventry).

Elsewhere, the men’s 2nd XI also tasted success with a 5-1 win away to Long Buckby. James Whyte hogging the lime light and the goal scoring with four excellent flicks from short corners with Alex Relf grabbing the other.

The men’s 3rd lost a seven-goal thriller with Nottingham 2nd XI, Scott Edwards with two and Alex Mugglestone grabbing the goals. The men’s 4th XI also lost a close contest 3-2 to Stratford 4th XI, Ben Mugglestone and Alex Marriott with the efforts in this one.

The Ladies 1st XI got a great 7-0 win away to Wellingborough 1st XI. Jo Hatley with a hattrick leading the scoring and further goals from Helen Harwood with two, Anna Godwin and Jools Rann.

The Ladies 2nd XI lost 6-0 to Melton 1st XI. In the mixed section, not a great day for the As who lost 15-0 to Sutton Bonnington with the Kestrels also losing 4-1 to Leicester Wolves.
