League’s top scorer bags brace to sink Dynamo

-

A GOAL in both halves was enough for Stamford to beat Loughborough Dynamo 2-0 writes James Kendrick.

Dynamo put in a battling performance in tough conditions but couldn’t prevent the league’s top scorer Jonathan Margetts from grabbing two goals.

Margetts put Stamford ahead on the half hour mark before grabbing his second just a minute into the second half to leave Dynamo still waiting for their first away win since October.

It was a tough game to play in, with a poor pitch and the wet and windy weather making it difficult for much football to be played.

But it was the home side who adapted to the conditions the best and were on the front foot for the entire 90 minutes.

Dynamo struggled to get out of their half and keep possession for any length of time as Stamford made use of their long throw and high balls into the box that swirled around in the wind.

Stamford right back Joe Burgess often found himself in space in and around the Dynamo box and could have scored two early on but miscued both a free header and a shot which both went off target.

On the half hour mark, Dynamo’s resistance was broken as Jonathan Margetts was left unmarked in the box and his shot found the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

An excellent block from Luke McGinnell was all that prevented it from being 2-0 before the break.

Dynamo needed a good start to the second half if they were to have a chance of getting back in it. However, it was Stamford who started quickly.

An excellent goal line clearance in the first 20 seconds from Ed Cook managed to send the ball out for a corner.

However, Jonathan Margetts got his head to the corner and made it 2-0.

Stamford had a number of chances to extend their lead as the game wore on but couldn’t convert them.

And with Dynamo only having one outfield player available on the bench they will be pleased to have kept Stanford’s lead down as well.
