The Luffs pick up another point with home stalemate

-

ANOTHER 0-0 draw for The Luffs and another tentative step towards league respectability, the defence and midfield did their job but on this occasion the Loughborough side were short on finishing and certainly the chances came and went.

Despite the lack of goals this was a good game to watch, two young sides playing the ball around impressively the draw was welcomed by both sides but Loughborough need to win a few to improve their league position.

Anstey were first to show but they made little impression on the home defence and Dylan Henderson had a good chance early on to put The Luffs in the lead but the Anstey keeper Zak Little positioned himself well and blocked the shot with an outstretched foot.

The two number eights, Tom Barsby for Anstey and Owen Clarke for Loughborough tried the luck from distance but the shots went wide. The Anstey side tried a couple of long balls to vary their attack with Darren Taylor and Josh Rudkin had half chances but the new Loughborough keeper Noel Beniston showed an encouraging competence between the sticks. The luffs won a free kick which Anstey eventually cleared from their penalty area but it remained goalless at half time.

There were spells in the second half when The Luffs attacked with purpose but Anstey had their moments but the Loughborough keeper commanded his area and defender Tolu Abbass commanding at the back.

The second real chance of the game occurred as Henderson squared the ball for Wakelin but with the goal at his mercy and Anstey defender got a toe in to see the ball past the post. The chances then were never quite clear cut as The Luffs became the nearly team, Wakelin show his pace on a number of occasions but the final touch wasn’t there and new signing Reuben Dhillon tried an overhead kick but the Anstey keeper Zak Little caught it cleanly.

Cyrus Brierley the regular striker came on for Loughborough after injury but he made little impression on the Anstey defence and the game finished goalless.
