Programme of events to put va-va-voom into your year!

FROM speciality markets and car shows to traditiona­l favourites such as Loughborou­gh Fair and the Christmas lights switch-on, there is something for all Charnwood residents to look forward to in 2023.

A programme of events organised by Charnwood Borough Council and Love Loughborou­gh gets under way with a vegan market in Loughborou­gh town centre on Sunday, March 12.

To mark the coronation weekend in the second weekend of May, the council is planning a themed market on Saturday, May 6.

Later in the year there’s a car show and an event to mark the 100th anniversar­y of the Carillon Tower is being planned for July.

The council’s Living Loughborou­gh project will see £2.87 million spent on the town centre. An Urban Plaza will be created with more seating along with the use of semi-permanent stalls to encourage pop-up markets and street activity.

Events confirmed for Loughborou­gh this year are as follows:

■ March 12 - Vegan market, Loughborou­gh Market Place.

■ April 8-10 - Pinders Circus, Southfield­s Park.

■ April 23 – Loughborou­gh Bike Meet, town centre.

■ May 6-8 Coronation Weekend. Details to be confirmed.

■ May 14 - Ceramics market, Loughborou­gh Market.

■ May 21 - Vegan market, Loughborou­gh Market.

■ May 21 – Dog show, Southfield­s

Park.

■ June 18 – Loughborou­gh Car Show, town centre.

■ June 24 - Armed Forces Day, Loughborou­gh town centre.

■ June 25 - Funtopia Inflatable­s, Southfield­s Park.

■ July 16 – Loughborou­gh Car Meet, town centre.

■ July 22 - Carillon centenary, Queen’s Park. Details to be confirmed.

■ August 20 – Loughborou­gh Car Meet, town centre.

■ September 24 – Loughborou­gh Bike Meet, town centre.

■ October 22 - Vegan Market, Loughborou­gh Market.

■ October 2023 - Diwali lights switchon, Loughborou­gh town centre. October 2023 – Loughborou­gh edition of Monopoly released.

■ November 8-11 - Loughborou­gh

Fair, town centre

■ November 12 - Remembranc­e parade and service, Queen’s Park and Loughborou­gh town centre.

■ November 25-January 7 – Peter Pan pantomime at Loughborou­gh Town Hall.

■ November 26 - Christmas lights switch-on, Loughborou­gh town centre

■ December 3 - Santa Run, Loughborou­gh town centre.

Councillor Jenny Bokor, lead member for Loughborou­gh, said: “This year will be very exciting for the local community with a number of great events taking place.

“We are having speciality markets, events in the park and we’ll be once again hosting Loughborou­gh Fair.

“Some of these events like the fair are part of our heritage, but others such as the vegan market, are new to Loughborou­gh in recent years and have already proved incredibly popular.”
