PLAUDITS FOR ACTRESS IN END OF THE WORLD DRAMA

BELLA Ramsey has been hailed as “phenomenal” and a “gift” by viewers after the stunning season finale of Sky TV sci-fi drama The Last of Us.

The 19-year-old, who lives in Leicestershire and studied acting at Loughborough’s Stagecoach Theatre, played Ellie in the end-of-the-world series, receiving plaudits along the way.

The final episode of the first season garnered more praise for the actor and her co-star, Pedro Pascal.

One said: s “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen actors this open before. it’s like their souls are on full display. Don’t even get me started on all of their nuances. A season for the history books.”

A second said: “Bella Ramsey is a gift. She brings such charm to the role of Ellie. I was neutral to the character in the games. The balance of precociousness, innocence, her chemistry with Pascal is amazing.”

The Last of Us follows Bella’s Ellie and Pedro’s Joel as they journey across America in the wake of a virus that has wiped out much of humanity.

Their travels are far from safe and led to the Leicestershire actor suffering an eye injury while filming a scene in the HBO production.

A second season of the hit show will be made, with Nottingham-born Bella set to return to the role. There had been some concerns that she would be recast for the next season, but showrunner Neil Druckmann said: “The only way we would ever, ever consider re-casting Bella is if she said, ‘I don’t want to work with you guys any more.”

Appearing on ITV’s The Jonathan Ross Show at the weekend, Bell said Bella of her friendship with The Last of Us co-star Pedro: “It’s very real. Imagine if it was all fake? I love him. I miss him. He’s in Los Angeles living his best life. (Star Wars TV series) Mandalorian has just come out, so he’s really busy.”

■ The first season of the Last of Us can be watched in full on Sky catch-up and NOW TV.
