CLC 1st XI suffer heavy away defeat

BEESTON 3RD XI 7 COALVILLE & LOUGHBOROUGH CARILLON 1ST XI 0

THE last away game for the Men’s 1st XI resulted in a heavy defeat against Beeston 3rd XI.

A few absences brought in a few changes to last week, the injured Liam Allen being rushed back and a first team debut for Ben Grundy. With both teams having very little to play for, CLC mid table and Beeston already promoted, the game was intense but played in the right spirit throughout.

It was Beeston who showed their quality on the day, racing into a 5-0 lead at half time with some very good finishing but also in truth aided by some lax CLC play. The second half from a CLC perspective was much better as the team showed some pride and began to test Beeston defensively. Man of the match Charlie Woodfield particularly impressive in the second half showing where the defence also stood up to their task well.

The home side did add two further goals to complete their haul and a good day at the office for them but a good effort from a depleted squad. The final game of the season is at home against Derwent 1st XI with three points the aim.

The men’s 2nd XI faced top of the table and undefeated Towcester 1st XI hoping to right the wrongs of a big away defeat. While CLC more than matched their opponents, Towcester proved stronger on the day, grinding out a 2-1 win, James Whyte with the home sides goal.

The 3rd XI also played at home to Newark 2nd XI. Safe in their respective division and with little to play for against their relegation threatened visitors they came out on the end of a 3-1 defeat, Alex Mugglestone scoring for the team. To round out a poor day, if not based on endeavour but results wise, the 4th XI lost heavily to Hampton 4th in a 5-0 early morning defeat.

Only the Ladies 1st XI were in action this week with a 2-2 draw against cross town rivals Loughborough Town 3rd XI, goals from Nic Murdoch and Jo Hately. The mixed sides Kestrels and Hermitage both won 4-1, Kestrels against Old Bags and Hermitage against Rangers.
