Developer says it will preserve monuments on Garendon Park
MEMBERS of Leicestershire County Council and Loughborough Library Local Studies Volunteer Group were welcomed to Persimmon Homes’ Garendon Park development in Loughborough to hear about the developer’s ‘commitment to preserving the estate’s historical monuments’.
Located on the northern edge of the Leicestershire town, the development will – upon completion – provide a mixed-use community with over 3,000 homes for the people of Loughborough and the surrounding areas. Positioned on the Garendon Park estate, the developers say they have placed a key focus on the preservation of the historical monuments in the area whilst creating the new community.
The site contains a number of structures of historical significance, including the remains of a 12th century Cisterican monastery, an 18th century Triumphal Arch and the White Lodge, which dates back to the 17th Century.
A spokesperson from the Heritage Buildings Section of the Loughborough Library Local Studies Volunteer Group said: “The tour kindly organised by Persimmon Homes, allowed our group to see up close the listed buildings on Garendon Park. We would like to thank the team for giving us the opportunity to learn more about their plans for them to be preserved for future generations to enjoy. We found the visit interesting and informative.”
