Events set to continue with Coronation market in town

-

ANOTHER busy programme of events in Charnwood began with a popular vegan market which took place in March and the return of Pinders Circus over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Many of the events for 2023 are being organised by Charnwood Borough Council.

The town centre also hosts three markets every week which have a range of products on sale.

There is a retail market which takes place on Thursdays and Saturdays and a vintage market on Fridays.

Chris Grace, head of economic development and regeneration at the council, said: “Our events are already proving popular in Loughborough town centre and the Market Place. There is so much for people to get excited about this year.

“Events are put on for residents to enjoy and to help attract visitors into Charnwood. Visitors spend in our local businesses which is essential to support our town centres.

“We have a brilliant range of events from specialist markets through to the historic Loughborough Fair.

“The recent HSBC fire in Loughborough has caused some disruption, but the town centre is very much open for business. We encourage people to pop along and show their support for businesses and market.

“There is lots for people to do in the town, including a visit to Loughborough Town Hall which has reopened following the fire at the neighbouring HSBC building.”

Lisa Brown, manager of Love Loughborough which also stages some events said: “We are really looking forward to all the events in Loughborough this year and I am pleased we’re off to great start.

“Our aim is to drive footfall and make sure people enjoy being in the town centre. The fire was distressing but fortunately no-one was hurt and we must all now work together to make sure Loughborough is a key destination for people.”

The Market Place will be host to the Love Loughborough Bike and Trike Meet on Sunday. People can admire a range of modern and classic, bikes, scooters and mopeds plus there will be live music during the day.

Loughborough Market will be holding a special, themed market to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III on Saturday, May 6.

In the summer, the town’s war memorial, the Carillon Tower, will be marking its 100th anniversary with an event on Saturday, July 22.

The year will be rounded off once again by Loughborough Fair and the Christmas lights switch-on.
