The Luffs crash to another heavy defeat

ANSTEY NOMADS RES 9 LOUGHBOROUGH FC 4 Leicestershire Senior League Division Two

WITH The Luffs currently shipping goals and heading for the worst season the club has had in their 30-year existence you’d be forgiven for wishing the football season would end now. But there are still two games to go.

Having said that, the first half was an even competition, but it was yet another second half collapse that left the Loughborough club with another embarrassing scoreline.

The Luffs started slowly and Anstey’s Darren Taylor had a header saved but it was Jimmy King who had his shooting boots on for the home side.

He found the bottom corner with a cracking shot and it was 1-0 and looking ominous for the visitors.

But The Luffs have been here before and just when they looked dead and buried, they produced a period of good football capped by Owen Clarke finding the bottom corner to level the scores.

As defender Jivani Pope limped off injured The Luffs were looking a bit lightweight at the back but veteran defender Dan Arnold rose to the occasion in the first half but Anstey took the lead again, that man King again, this time he found the top corner from distance giving the Loughborough keeper Noel Beniston no chance with a well struck shot.

At 2-1 down The Luffs had another moment of magic and Cyrus Brierley levelled the scores. It was a good entertaining first half from both teams then it all went pearshaped for the Loughborough lads and for the second week on the trot they fell apart.

The second half began with a catalogue of disasters. King made it 3-2 and Andrew Stannard helped himself to two more Anstey goals to make it 5-2 and The Luffs were all over the place. Darren Taylor fluked the sixth goal just to show it wasn’t Loughborough’s day.

The Luffs brought on Dylan Henderson, who brought the score to 7-4 and suddenly Anstey weren’t quite as cocky but an own goal made it eight and once again the stuffing was knocked out of the visitors.

Sory Kaba Sherif made it 9-4 and that’s how it finished. The Luffs travel to Lutterworth on Saturday and then the final game against Bottesford at The Drome the following Saturday.
