Scouts appeal for help as permission given to build new town hut

-

A Scouts group has been granted permission to build a new clubhouse.

1st Nanpantan Scouts have been given the green light to replace their hut in Loughborough and are calling for the local community to support their venture.

The existing hut on Nanpantan Road, was built in 1950 and is one of the oldest and biggest Scouting colonies in Leicestershire, currently supporting more than 130 children and an ever- growing waiting list!

The current facility is much used and loved, but now well beyond the state of repair.

Now, with planning permission in place, fundraising is under way to hopefully enable a new building to be built soon. It will host large open space for events as well as smaller meeting rooms and a fully equipped kitchen.

The much-loved fire circle will remain, having recently been renovated with the materials donated by Travis Perkins and Tarmac – plus lots of manual labour from some willing volunteers. 1st Nanpantan Scouts have also been awarded a grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, from the UK Government, towards building costs. Group Scout leader Carl TravisRoberts said: “We’re delighted to be working towards building a new facility.

“It will enable us to support even more children and provide a lovely fully accessible facility for the local community, so as many people as possible can benefit.”

The group would like to hear from anyone who is able to offer support with the development in any way, large or small, individual or a business. Please get in touch at enquire@ nanpantanscouts.org.uk.

You can also visit the Scout group when it hosts a community afternoon on Sunday, May 14. All friends, neighbours and anyone who has had a connection to the group over the years, are very welcome to join them for refreshments and cake – and to see our future plans. There will be a warm welcome for everyone.

It will enable us to support even more children and provide a lovely fully accessible facility for the local community. Scout leader
