-

IN THE Bowls Loughborough Men’s Monday league Division 1 Shepshed Rams continued their good start to the season with a 66-39 (6-2) win at Loughborough Phoenix Pegasus whilst newly promoted Loughborough Brush Peregrines also had an excellent win, 56-36 (7-1) at home against Thringstone Woodpeckers.

After a first week defeat, last seasons champions, Birstall Sands returned to winning ways with a 50-41 (6-2) home victory over Quorn Weavers and in the remaining game Syston Fosseway collected a 59-30 win against Birstall Lighthouse.

In Division 2, Syston White Plum could only field two rinks in their home game against Loughborough Greenfields Badgers and having lost 28-48 (0-8) they also have a two points deduction for fielding an incomplete team. East Leake Willows completed a clean sweep of the points with a 57-40 (8-0) win against visitors St Margarets Saints whilst Belgrave Cygnets long journey to play Wymeswold Wolds proved worthwhile when they returned home to Leicester with a 54-49 (6-2) win after a closely fought game. Soar Valley Avons entertained Queens Park Queens and were 60-46 (6-2) winners.

The two promoted teams in Division 3 have both made positive starts with Syston Fosseway Romans the pick of the two, collecting maximum points in their 50-46 (8-0) win against St Margarets Maggies and Keyworth Commandos also having a good win, 65-31 (6-2) against Syston Swords. Two local Derby’s saw Sutton Bonington Riversiders overcome their hosts Kegworth 54-46 (5-3) and Sileby Swallows secured a 55-49 (5-3) win in another close game against Rothley Crusaders.

Division 4 has been reduced to six teams following the withdrawal of Loughborough Greenfields Foxes whose result from the first week has been expunged. The two Soar Valley teams met at their green with Merlins running out winners 54-48 (6-2) against Spitfires with the final game seeing Quorn Dons secure a convincing 59-41 (8-0) victory in their home game against Loughborough Brush Hawks.

Shepshed have opened up a six points lead at the top of the Ladies Tuesday morning league Division 1 following their 44-14 (6-0) victory at Wymeswold with Sileby moving up into second place after their 33-28 (7-1) win against Loughborough Brush. East Leakes home advantage saw them collect a 43-37 (4-2) win against visitors Kegworth.

Leaders Syston Fosseway dropped their first points of the season in their Division 2 game at Loughborough Phoenix but finished 42-30 (4-2) winners with Syston having another excellent win 39-23 (6-0) on their travels to Loughborough Greenfields to remain in second place. Keyworth could only field one rink for their game at Soar Valley and having lost the game 12-31 (0-6) they suffered a further two points deduction for fielding an incomplete team.

No change at the top of the Men’s Thursday league Division 1 with Shepshed North holding on to first place thanks to a 84-57 (8-2) win at Thringstone Rangers whilst East Leake Willows 68-56 (8-2) win at home against Syston Fosseway keeps them in second place, six points behind the leaders. There was a very close finish in the game at Sileby where hosts Swifts held on to win the game by one shot, 60-59 (6-4) against Loughborough Phoenix Flyers.

The top two teams met in Division 2 where leaders Loughborough Brush Eagles travelled to Wymeswold to play Wolds and found the Wolds in fine form, the hosts winning 76-61 (8-2) which leaves them equal on points with Eagles but with an inferior shots difference.

St Margarets Maggies made the short journey down the A6 worthwhile, returning back to Birstall with a resounding 102-41 (10-0) victory against Soar Valley Valoars under their belts whilst

Loughborough Greenfields were not so lucky on their visit to Shepshed South, where they found themselves on the wrong side of a 44-68 (0-10) scoreline and having played with a rink short, they face a 2pts deduction foe fielding an incomplete team.
