Normanton on Soar

-

CHARITY CONCERT. On Saturday, it was lovely to have Normanton on Soar’s St James Church full for a concert by Loughborough Concert Band - the Church has had a lot of compliments from those who attended.

Thanks were expressed to the band for entertaining everyone so well, and also to those who provided canapés to go with the Cava in the interval, and those who decorated the church with flowers. All who attended were really grateful to Charterhouse Holdings for sponsoring the evening, so that all the generous donations that people made

on the evening will go to the St James Church’s Charity of the Year, the Motor Neurone Disease Association. As much as £868 was donated on Saturday evening, which will be added to other fundraising events during the year, so that a presentation can be made to the charity at the Carol Service in December.

It was also good to have Janet McMillan from the Motor Neurone Disease Association at the concert, who spoke so movingly about their work.

QUIET SPACES AT ST JAMES’, NORMANTON ON SOAR – JULIAN GROUP. The next Julian group meetings will be on June 20 at 6.30pm. All are welcome to come along. These regular Julian meetings encourage one another in the practice of contemplative prayer. Julian of Norwich’s writings encourage us to be still, silent and receptive in God’s presence, trusting Him to make Himself known to us. After a brief introduction, our times together are based on the simple idea of spending at least half an hour together in silence, waiting on God and are open to anyone who would like to come. You can find more information on the website: www.thejulianmeetings.net or email sue.archbold@btinternet.com (842341).

NORMANTON ON SOAR MEN’S ASSOCIATION. On Monday evening June 26, we shall be Flat Green Bowling at the Sutton Bonington Bowls Club on Landcroft Lane.

This is just a fun evening, no experience necessary.

For more detail, and to book a place, please call Alan Dimelow (01509 672188).
