Cotton fabric: 7x17cm, butter yellow x2

Stranded cotton: 1 skein each of black, pink, light pink, purple, turquoise, light turquoise, yellow and light yellow Embroidery hoop: 15cm diameter

STITCHES USED

Backstitch, French Knot, Satin Stitch

For the bottom butterfly, stitch the wings and

01 body in Satin Stitch using two strands of black, purple, pink, light pink, turquoise and light turquoise. For the top butterfly, work the wings and body in Satin Stitch using black, purple, light pink, light turquoise and yellow. Add the butterfly heads using a French Knot in two strands of black. Use Backstitch in two strands to add the antennae in black. For the top butterfly, add the decorative lines using Backstitch in two strands of pink. Moving onto the flowers, work the petals in Satin

02 Stitch using two strands of pink. Fill the flower centres with a few French Knots in light yellow. Stitch the leaves in two strands of light turquoise and the stems in two strands of turquoise using Backstitch.

Iron on the reverse and then place the stitched

03 piece and spare fabric together with right sides facing each other and pin. Work running stitch around the outside, with a 1cm seam and a 3cm gap for turning. Turn through and close the gap using ladder stitch.
