MATERIALS
Your gift – Tea time embroidery transfers
Cotton fabric: 18x18cm, white x2
Stranded cotton: 1 skein each of blue, dark blue, brown, light brown, green, pink, red and yellow
Embroidery hoop: 13cm diameter
Stiff cardboard circles: 6.5cm diameter x2
Wool felt circles: 7cm diameter x2
Magnets x2
Glue gun or strong craft glue
Basic embroidery kit
STITCHES USED
Backstitch, French Knot, Lazy Daisy Stitch, Satin Stitch, Stem Stitch
01 For the cake, stitch the plate and frosting in Stem Stitch using pink and blue. Stitch the cake and cherry in Satin Stitch using brown, light brown and red. Add the jam in Backstitch using two strands of red.
02 For the coffee pot, fill the handle and spout with Stem Stitch using blue. Work the pot, the lid and the lid’s handle in Satin Stitch using blue and dark blue.
03 Fill the flowers with Satin Stitch in yellow, pink and red. Stitch the leaves using Lazy Daisy Stitch in green. Add a yellow French Knot to the flower’s centre. Add more French Knots in two strands of pink as shown.
04 With the design central, cut the fabric to a 11cm diameter and then work running stitch around the edge. Stick your felt to the card and lay it felt-side down on the back of your stitching. Pull the thread to gather the fabric, then glue in place at the back. Repeat with the second design and attach the magnets to finish.
