To create your own abstract design, start by planning it out on paper. Once you’re happy with the composition, transfer it onto your fabric and fill using whatever elements or techniques you like from the designs above.

Felting surface protectors come in various forms, the most common being foam sponges or bristled brush mats. These surfaces all perform the same basic function, which is to absorb the impact of the felting needle. They are placed behind the felt and fabric as you stab it with the specially designed needle.
