Cross Stitch

Working on a fabric with an even grid of holes, bring the needle up at 1 and work a diagonal stitch, going down at 2. Come up again at 3, in the hole next to 1, and work a diagonal stitch in the opposite direction, going down at 4, overlapping the previous stitch to create a cross shape. Repeat to fill an area.
