Coral Stitch

Bring the needle up at 1, down at 2, a short distance to the left. Bring it up again at 3, slanting the needle slightly without pulling it through the fabric. Loop the thread over the needle from top to bottom and pull it through the fabric slowly to form a knot. Pull the thread slowly and ease the knot down on to the fabric.
