PTS 4 WIRE STRIPPERS

LRO (UK) - - Used & Abused -

There’s a huge choice of wire strippers on the market, priced from a few quid to three figures. At the bottom end you have pliers-type tools where you guess how much pressure to apply, and can strip the inner copper if you get it wrong. Then at the top end you have complex solutions with a different hole for each core size – great if you know the size of your wire’s core.

Between them you have the PTS4 ‘Duckbill’ style, which can handle wires from 0.2mm2 to 4mm2 in the same orifice. They apply just enough pressure to strip the insulation without damaging the wire. They struggle with slippery PTFE insulation and get snagged up on coax, but for most car wiring they’re great. VERDICT: An inexpensive and reliable solution to stripping car wires.
