Perfect all-rounder

If you want a load-lugging, semi-civilised dependable workhorse, look no further. For those who’ve been used to Series Land Rovers and Ninetys, the Disco 1 will come as an absolute revelation, especially on fast roads. In my 1992 example, I covered over 60,000 miles in two years and it never missed a beat.

Family-friendly fun

A Discovery 1 is the ideal second car. Great for tip trips (helping to keep the family repmobile pristine), you’ll soon find that the whole family will quickly clamour to use the Disco in preference. Fold the two dicky seats away (if fitted) and save on delivery of large items, while still fitting in the weekly shop.

The ideal city cruiser

A D1 is surprisingly good in towns. It’s short enough to get into on-street parking spaces; but watch out for the occasional low-slung, multi-storey car park ceiling. A commanding driving position gives a modern, confident feel and even the diesels are quick enough off the mark, albeit with a puff of smoke.
