LRO (UK) - - Technique Muddy Recovery -

TESTED BY: NEIL WATTERSON ● KIT REQUIRED: 550 Paracord – with however long a length you want/need ● TIME TAKEN: Two minutes ● COST: £6.95 per 100ft, thebushcraft ● HOW EASY: ★ ★ ★ ★★ ● SUCCESS RATING: ★ ★ ★ ★★

HOW IT’S DONE: We know that ropes are effective for recovering and towing Land Rovers, as long as you have the right amount to handle the load. I’ve been to recover a vehicle, only to find the shackles I had with me wouldn’t fit the recovery eye – the solution was to connect the rope with paracord. There are loads of different types on the market, but I always use the genuine 550 Paracord, which has a 550lb (250kg) breaking strain.

Once you’ve worked out how much force is required, divide it by 250 and double it (for a factor of safety). In this instance, I calculated a pull of 500kg would be required to move the Series III, so four lengths would be sufficient.

It may not be the most macho towing solution, but it certainly works.
