Luftwaffe Over Britain 1939-45
STUKA PILOT
Hauptmann Walter Sigel
Walter Sigel was an experienced Junkers 87 Stuka pilot by the time the war began and he flew operationally in Poland, France, and then during the Battle of Britain. He was awarded the Knights Cross when serving as commander of I./StG3. He then flew operationally in the Mediterranean and North Africa before assigned to staff appointments in Norway. It was here, on 8 May 1944, during an inspection of Luftwaffe units that the aircraft he was flying in hit an air defence cable and he was killed in the crash.
