Macc inflict more misery on winless Widnes

VIVIO CHESHIRE CCL DIVISION ONE MACCLESFIELD ..... 220-8 WIDNES....................... 170

MACCLESFIELD ensured Widnes’ miserable season went on, their 50-run victory at the division’s second-bottom side meaning they remain the only team in the league yet to record a win.

Macc confirmed their leadership rights with an impressive all-round performance, once again led by captain Nick Ross.

The Aussie hit 68 to edge ever closer to reaching 1,000 runs for the season.

Ross and Tom Parfitt (43) helped the visitors post 220-8, Ben Hewitt’s 5-35 the top performance for Widnes.

In reply the hosts were dismissed for just 170, with Hewitt scoring 35.

The Macc attack was led by Jack Ward with 3-30 and Ian Tait, who finished with 3-43.

On Sunday, August 31 Macclesfield CC will host an under-sevens cricket festival.

As one of the few clubs in the North West with a dedicated under-sevens group, Macclesfield will play Poynton, Congleton, Prestbury, Ashley and Romiley and will give young cricketers a great opportunity to compete against other clubs.

The teams are playing for the SAS Daniels Trophy, named after event sponsors SAS Daniels Solicitors, and the event starts at 10am.

As well as the cricket there will be a barbecue, bar, face painting and bouncy castle, a sweet and loom band stall and disco.

Organisers are hoping England coach Peter Moores will again be at his hometown club, if the England coach’s busy schedule allows, to present the awards.
