Choir gets ready for new season of song
AFTER a summer break, a choral group is getting ready for its new season of concerts.
Prestbury Choral Society performed at a range of venues during its last season, culminating in a finale concert at St Bartholomew’s Church in Wilmslow in June, during which it performed Sasha Johnson Manning’s ‘ Songs of the Soldier’.
The piece was composed especially for the group to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War. The concert was recorded and can be seen on YouTube.
Cynthia Crewe, one of the choir’s members, said: “The piece, based on five profound and powerful poems by Rupert Brooke, John McCrae and Siegfried Sassoon, was deeply moving and a privilege to sing, accompanied by James Pelham on piano to maintain an air of intimacy, in the presence of Sasha herself.
“Singing is such a pleasure, so uplifting, and is pretty good exercise too – it’s physically demanding, mentally stimulating and gives a great sense of well-being.
“And then there is the social element – I’ve made so many good friends through the choir.”
