Beer fans set to flock in droves to sell-out festival
THOUSANDS of people are expected at this weekend’s Macclesfield beer festival.
Organisers say they are expecting a sellout event and that nearly all of the 3,000 tickets have gone.
Ben Whiteley, of Macclesfield Round Table, said: “The 21st Macclesfield Beer Festival is set to be a great event and we’ve had a fantastic demand for tickets.
“We’re expecting the event to sell out, so we’d encourage visitors to book their tickets sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.
“I’d like to thank all of our sponsors for supporting the event.
“I also want to say a big thank you to all of our volunteers who will be giving up their time this week to set up the huge bar and look after more than 250 beers, perries and ciders, as well as the team who volunteer to serve behind the bar and help with the many other support roles needed to make the event happen.”
Money raised will fund a children’s bereavement centre to be developed by East Cheshire Hospice, the first charity to benefit from the festival’s sponsorship when it began 21 years ago.
The centre will provide support to young people who have lost a parent or loved one to cancer.
Festival visitors will be able to sample a wide range of beers, ales, ciders and perries from across the UK and a selection of expertly chosen wines.
Evening sessions will include live music from local bands Monkey Harris and The Big Jam, with Saturday daytime featuring local singers Charli White, Helen Walford and Joe Barker.
There will also be family entertainment including a tombola, raffle, bar skittles and balloon sculptures.
If all that beer makes you hungry, you can tuck into wood fired pizzas and a hog roast as well as sandwiches and pies.
Al’s BBQ Shack will also be there during the Saturday daytime and evening sessions.
The festival takes place at Macclesfield Rugby Club and is open to the public from 7pm to midnight on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9 as well as Saturday daytime from midday to 3.30pm.
Tickets are £10 for each evening, available from the Macclesfield Beer Festival website macclesfieldbeerfestival.org and include a 21st anniversary glass.
The Saturday daytime session is free.
