Sue left vulnerable after bike theft

-

A CYCLIST says she is a nervous wreck after thieves broke in and stole her only form of transport.

Thieves broke into Sue Thomason’s backyard on Crossall Street in Macclesfield overnight between April 28 and 29.

They made off with the B’Twin Rockrider worth several hundreds pounds while Sue sat meters away.

Sue, 50, has now been left feeling vulnerable and nervous. She is also without any form of transport because she used her bike every day.

Sue, a freelance writer and social media manager, said: “I lived in London for many years so I never needed to learn how to drive.

“My bike was my only way of getting around. I’m left without transport.

“I used my to get around town and to go to meetings as I work from home.”

Sue believes she was up at the time of the theft.

She said: “I was in on my own that night and I actually heard the bike being stolen at about 11.30pm.

“It was stolen right out of my back yard and the thief would have had to climb over a high fence to get it.

“I thought the noise was the neighbours out in their garden as their security light came on.

“The thief must have watched me sitting there.

“That they’d break into my back yard and not care that the light was on and that I was in full view makes me wonder what they’d have done if I’d turned around and spotted them.”

Sue said the crime has had a terrible effect on her. She said: “It’s only a bike, but I’ve slept with a light on since it happened and I’m now thinking if they can get into my back yard, they can get into my house. I’m scared of going in the back yard after dark and I keep checking and re-checking the doors are locked. It is strange how it affects you.

“I’m trying to tell myself it was probably just kids but I feel nervous and vulnerable

“My bike has a brand new silver chain and one of those wide seats, which is unusual for a mountain bike. I really hope whoever took it does the decent thing and brings it back or it is spotted by someone who can report it to police.”
