●● A FITNESS instructor has spoken of his determination to help people lose weight in the face of the looming obesity crisis in Europe.

Jon Hall, 35, who works at The Academy Group Transformation Centre, believes people are trying to shed the pounds but are often given the wrong advice.

He said: “You need a balanced diet.

“For instance, some people say they’ve been told to have just porridge or orange juice for breakfast but all carbohydrates and no protein means your body just stores fat.

“People assume if you’re obese, you’re lazy but it could be you’re trying but just channelling your energy in the wrong direction and getting bad advice.”

The father-of-two, who lives with partner Alex Jordan on Gullane Close, has worked in fitness for 13 years and published more than 500 fitness blogs, some of which are in a book entitled The Assorted Ramblings of The Academy.

He joked that with a degree in engineering and operations management he could have earned a lot more money than he does in the fitness arena but said he would not swap the job for the world.

He said: “What we really like doing at the Academy is helping people improve their lives and be happier as well as losing weight.

“Loads of people we’ve helped here have lost 60, 70 and 80 pounds.

“Helping people to transform their lives and bodies is really awesome.”

He added: “Losing weight needs to be part and parcel of people’s lifestyles though.”
