Theatre group is rehearsing hard for latest play of mystery and suspense
THEATRE group members have been busy rehearsing for their next show.
The performers from Purvies Productions are preparing to put on Take Away the Lady, a play of mystery and suspense by Jimmie Chinn.
Funds raised will go to the 1st Sutton St James Scout and Guide group.
Nana Whitlock, of the group, said: “Last year saw a performance of a Derek Benfield comedy First Things First over three nights in May, as well as one night of theatrical entertainment in November featuring a short play and Talking Heads monologues.
“This month sees the next production of Take Away the Lady.
“It offers intriguing glimpses into a cupboard full of family skeletons and keeps everyone guessing until the very end.
“Rehearsals are in full swing, with a very talented cast supported by a enthusiastic backstage crew, and the set is being built by a team of volunteers from the village.”
Purvies Productions is centred at the Scout Hut in Sutton. The group was founded in 2002, the brainchild of close friends Ruth Purcell and Taffy Davies, a former vicar in the village. Nana said: “Purvies Productions is a small but lively theatre group. When Ruth and Taffy founded the group it was their intention to put on polished drama performances while having a great deal of fun and raising money for worthwhile causes.
“Thirteen years on and the group is going from strength to strength.”
Take Away the Lady runs from Thursday, May 14 to Saturday, May 16, 7.30pm at the Scout hut, Church Lane. Tickets cost £8 each, no concessions. Call the ticket line on 07771 322971.
