Zoe out of this world as art put in spotlight

- STUART GREER

AN artist is celebrating after her work was selected by top art critics to be displayed in London.

Zoe Watson, who specialises in pictures of star constellations and the aurora borealis, is one of 30 artists who will have their work exhibited at the Guardian newspaper.

It is part of the Share My Art project run by the newspaper group since 2012.

Whereas in previous years the art has been collated into online galleries viewed by millions, this year images of the works will be magnified onto the side of the company’s headquarters at Kings Place.

Judges chose her painting, Young Stars in their Baby Blanket of Dust, as one of the favourites.

Celebrating the selection Zoe, from Poynton, said: “It’s a massive achievement for me and such a wonderful spotlight and recognition.”

It is another opportunity for the artist to share her work in the country’s capital.

Last year Zoe was selected to have her art displayed on massive LED billboards across London as part of a unique partnership between digital outdoor advertising company Daylite LED Media and online gallery Painted. org.uk.

Zoe mainly works with acrylics but also uses inks and pastels.

The 47-year-old said her art was instinctive, adding: “Inspired by people and nature, my contemporary work is a blend and style which is very distinct – the ultimate aim of which is to capture the imagination of the viewer within the colours and textures of the paintings.

“Art is a journey, and it is also a destination, but more importantly for me, it is indeed a passion.

“Each painting is completely individual, each stroke, each colour and texture is painted with feelings which I hope are expressed, and in some way touched by the person who is viewing my work.

“Art allows me to see and feel what other people want to see – quite literally by encouraging and bringing a piece of that person’s imagination to life.

“To create unique paintings which stir feelings and opinion is the greatest reward of all.

“I am lucky to sell my work – but in honesty, I paint because I love it, it’s who I am as a person, everything else is a bonus.

“All my paintings are painted with passion, and given with love.”

Earlier this year Zoe was chosen to display her paintings at the famous Art Monaco Exhibition 2015, a three-day celebration of international artists.
