Bolly’s shock defeat

- BOLLINGTON CC

SATURDAY saw Bollington take on mid-table Widnes in another key fixture.

On a good-looking batting track, Widnes skipper Sean Moore won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Bollington had a shaky start as Tom Barrass and Rick Hough fell for four and 13 respectively.

On his final game for the club before he heads back home to South Africa, Sabir Mallie looked in great touch for the hosts before playing across the line to the flight and guile of Rajiv Singh.

David Paterson, meanwhile, played a well-constructed and disciplined knock. He scored 61 before being bowled by Singh.

Coming in at the end, Peter Henshall (22) hit some lusty blows to ensure that Bolly secured eight batting points by getting to 200.

In the second innings the reliable Mo Jahangir and Mallie got Bolly off to a good start removing the two openers. This brought an in-form Luke McCoy to the crease and he played some powerful and inventive shots, reaching 127 before being bowled by Mallie.

Mallie (3-62) and Plant (2-59) removed the remainder of the middle order.

However James Menzies (4*) and Tom Keen (5*) ensured Widnes got a welldeserved victory.

Bollington travel to Brooklands CC on Saturday, knowing one more win will secure promotion.
