Club’s golf day for mill victims
A FORMER mill worker and her husband are organising a golf day at Tytherington Club to raise funds for the Bosley disaster victims.
The club has agreed to host the golf day and gala dinner and golfers are invited to sign up to take part.
It will raise money for those affected by the explosion at the wood mill in Bosley in July, which killed three mill workers and left another unaccounted for.
It’s being organised by former mill worker Moira Loake and her husband Steve, who met while Moira was working as a receptionist at the mill around 12 years ago.
Steve runs Direct Food Ingredients in Macclesfield which has sponsored events for the disaster victims, including the kit at the charity football match at the Moss Rose earlier this month.
He met Moira on the reception when collecting ingredients from another company which used to be based at the mill.
Moira said she spent happy days working at the mill and was shocked when she heard about the explosion, which completely destroyed the site.
She wanted to do something to help the fundraising appeal for the victims, so she and Steve set about organising the golf day.
Moira, who works as a teaching assistant at Gawsworth Primary, said: “From working at the mill I knew a lot of people who worked there from the community.
“I had only driven past the mill about a week before the explosion and couldn’t believe it when I heard the news.
“I used to work on the reception and on the weighbridge registering waggons when they came in and weighing them when they left to see how much of the wood flour they were taking away.
“In quiet times, one of my favourite things was polishing the trophies won by the mill’s tug of war team which were displayed in a big cabinet in reception.
“My husband plays golf at Tytherington and the club said they would try and help. It’s a great course and good for people to get to easily.
“We want to raise as much as we can.”
The golf day with gala dinner and auction is on Wednesday, September 30 at the Tytherington Club, starting at 1pm.
