●● A HURDSFIELD councillor has pledged to tackle safety concerns on Black Road.

Coun Mick Warren said residents have been complainin­g about issues along the busy stretch, which is used as a route to Puss Bank school.

He met with highways officers to look at the junctions along the road.

Coun Warren said officers are proposing improvemen­ts to the width of the traffic island and changes to double yellow lines.

Officers have also assured him that a trip hazard in the area will be fixed as a priority.

Coun Warren’s next surgery will be at The MAC on Goodall Street on Sunday September 27 from 6pm-7.30pm. ●● A SECURITY firm is hosting a coffee and cake event to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care.

The event is at Extreme Security on Hurdsfield Road on October 23 throughout the day. ●● CINEMAC is hosting a screening of Coriolanus.

The event at Heritage Centre, Roe Street, on Thursday, September 24, at 7pm, will show the National Theatre Live’s 2013 broadcast of the Donmar Warehouse’s production of the Shakespear­e tragedy.

The Chestergat­e pub will be giving local singers the chance to showcase their talents on Thursday, September 24 from 8pm. ●● THE Silk Trader is hosting a coffee and cake morning to battle cancer.

The Brook Street pub will be selling delicious cakes and coffee on Friday, September 25, from 10am to 12pm.

It aims to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

A similar event at the Macclesfie­ld and Bollington United Reformed Church at Park Green will be from 10am-12pm.
