Fan Stuart turns down sneaky Peaky as Blinders script found in car park

- RHIANNON MCDOWALL

IF you found a top secret script for one of TV’s most popular shows, would you be able to hand it straight back without revealing any spoilers?

Well that’s exactly what Macclesfield Express reporter Stuart Greer did after finding a Peaky Blinders script in a car park in the Macclesfield countryside.

Stuart stumbled upon the script for episode three of the third series of the 1920s gangster show as he was investigating a rumour the show was being filmed in a field off Hooleyhey Lane in Rainow.

But mad fan Stuart, who has watched the series since its inception, resisted the temptation to peek inside and insisted the script should be returned to the producers.

Stuart, 36, said he knew the significance of the find as soon as he saw it in a muddy puddle.

He said: “I am a massive fan of the show and had been told the cast and crew had been seen the day before, so thought I would check it out.

“After driving around for ages I’d given up finding them and decided to stop.

“As soon as I got out of my car I spotted some paper and instantly knew I was looking at a line of dialogue.

“I was plunged into a dilemma – do I peak or don’t I?

“There’s loads of fans out there who would have loved to have a sneak preview of what was coming in the next series – including me – but I decided I would just be spoiling it for myself and everyone else if I read it.”

The A5 document included a two page call sheet featuring the schedule of the filming, details of the location and names and contact numbers of crew, and five pages of dialogue.

Stuart has since returned the script to the production team’s offices in Liverpool.

A spokesperson for Peaky Blinders said: “We have extremely loyal fans and we are grateful in particular to this one for returning the lost document to production.”

The TV show is a gangster epic set in Birmingham just after World War I and is based on the historic gang who wear razor blades concealed in their cap and are led by boss Tommy Shelby, played by Hollywood star Cillian Murphy.

It is the second location in Macclesfield selected by production crew with scenes from the second series filmed in Christ Church on Bridge Street two years ago.
