Golfers in the swing to raise £5k for Bosley
MEMBERS of the community scored a hole in one for the Bosley disaster fund when they took part in a charity golf day.
Former mill worker Moira Loake and her husband Steve, who met while Moira was working as a receptionist at the Bosley wood mill around 12 years ago, organised the event at the Tytherington Club.
The couple, who run Direct Food Ingredients based at Waters Green in Macclesfield, wanted to raise funds for the victims of the explosion at the mill earlier this year.
Mill workers Dorothy Bailey, William Barks and Derek Moore died in the incident and Jason Shingler has not been found.
Cheshire coroner Nicholas Rheinberg is due to open inquests into the deaths of Dorothy Bailey and William Barks on Monday, October 19 at Warrington Town Hall.
The golf day, gala dinner, auction and raffle raised more than £5,000 for the fund set up by the community for those affected by the explosion. Fifty mill workers lost their jobs in the blast.
Moira said: “Having worked at the Bosley mill I knew a lot of people who worked there.
“This is a cause very close to my heart and a great tragedy I will never forget.
“Being based so close to the mill, our company wanted to help in any way we could and this event was our way of doing so.
“We can only hope that the money we have raised helps in some way to rebuild the lives of those linked to the disaster and that this encourages more people to continue fundraising for the Bosley Dis- aster Appeal Fund.”
Businesses throughout the North West rallied to contribute to the event and donate prizes for the auction and raffle.
The fund for Bosley is now nearly £200,000.
Fundraising includes a Help Bosley wristband competition which involves people sending in pictures wearing wristbands to promote the appeal from places near and far to raise cash and win prizes. Pictures can be uploaded to the Help Bos- ley Facebook page.
There are different categories in the competition and the closing date for entries is October 31.

A cordon remains in place at the scene of the explosion and the search is ongoing. Police, the Health and Safety Executive and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are working to investigate the cause of the explosion.
