Author set to visit library

-

A WOMAN who overcame her own personal struggles to become a published author is holding a book signing at Poynton library on October 17, from 10am to 12.30pm.

Brenda Braithwaite, 65, whose pen name is Lily Graham, hopes her personal story will inspire others.

Brenda, from Gawsworth, left school at 15 with no qualifications and started her working life in the factories of Congleton.

But she wanted more from life and started studying accountancy in her spare time, eventually getting her qualifications and setting up a business on Park Lane in Macclesfield.

The business, which had five staff and more than 100 clients, was eventually bought in 1989.

But Brenda always wanted to establish herself as an author and is now proud to have had her first fictional book The Phone Rang published.

The book tells the experiences of a young mother who is abused by her husband.

Brenda said: “She is 28 with three school-age children. While she is nursing her youngest child the phone rings and it’s her father saying her mother is dead.

“Her world is thrown into turmoil and over time she is convinced that her mother has been murdered by her own father. So her task is to prove it, get justice for her mother and oust her brute of a husband. There are heartbreaking and tear inducing moments, but also funny and moving.”
